I love old recipe boxes filled with vintage recipes. Recently I purchased this recipe box on Etsy and it's filled with recipe cards from the old "Meet the Millers" show. I couldn't find out much about the show itself, but the recipes are very interesting. What with Thanksgiving and lots of leftovers coming up I think I just might try this recipe.
Turkey Salad
1/2 cup soured cream
1 cup mayonnaise
2 Tbl. lemon juice
4 cups turkey, diced
2 cups seedless grapes
1 cup celery, chopped
1/2 cup toasted almonds
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup diced avocado
Mix together cream, mayonnaise, and lemon juice. Toss mixture with remaining ingredients. Chill
According to the recipe card this was published November 26, 1970. Meet the Millers aired on Channel 4 (WEBN) from 1-1:30 PM.
I imagine this might prove a tasty lunch with pita bread. If anyone out there knows more about the "Meet the Millers" show please let me know!
Now I'm hungry!

Old Recipe Boxes!
It's been so long since I posted.
Recently the Boston Globe published an article about ladies who collect old recipe boxes that contain old collections of recipes. I have been collecting old recipe boxes with the old recipes included for many years. I find them online or at yard sales or estate sales. I even found one at "Seconds to Go" junk shop that the locals like to go to on weekends. The recipe box that I got the other day had this strange recipe in it for "Corn Wine". I just might try that one--especially now that the locals are selling fresh corn on the roadside stands!
I'll let you know if I dare to do it!

Broken Glass
I love community cookbooks. I think that I might actually be addicted to them. I love finding one at a yardsale, an old bookstore or a church holiday bazaar that has an old recipe that you know is a family's tried and true "secret" recipe--their "go to" meal for comfort food. Since I have ancestors that hearken from the Wakefield, NH area, I snagged this puppy up in a hearbeat. I thumbed through the recipes and looked at the names of the contributors and there were several family names that rang that "genealogical bell" in my head.
So the other day I was "voluntold" to bring a dessert to a church supper and I decided to bring a neat sweet called "Broken Glass". It is a confection made of whipped cream and various flavors and colors of jello. The different colors of jello are cut up into little jagged pieces and mixed together with the whipped cream to look like shards from broken stained glass windows. It was really fun to make and didn't last very long on the buffet table at church. I'd gladly make the recipe again--but if you do--be sure to leave room in your fridge because you will be making several separate containers of jello at the same time. I hope to make another neat recipe from this cookbook soon!
