Meet the Millers

I love old recipe boxes filled with vintage recipes. Recently I purchased this recipe box on Etsy and it's filled with recipe cards from the old "Meet the Millers" show. I couldn't find out much about the show itself, but the recipes are very interesting.  What with Thanksgiving and lots of leftovers coming up I think I just might try this recipe.

Turkey Salad

1/2 cup soured cream
1 cup mayonnaise
2 Tbl. lemon juice
4 cups turkey, diced
2 cups seedless grapes
1 cup celery, chopped
1/2 cup toasted almonds
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup diced avocado

Mix together cream, mayonnaise, and lemon juice.  Toss mixture with remaining ingredients. Chill

According to the recipe card this was published November 26, 1970.  Meet the Millers aired on Channel 4 (WEBN) from 1-1:30 PM.

I imagine this might prove a tasty lunch with pita bread.  If anyone out there knows more about the "Meet the Millers" show please let me know!

Now I'm hungry!

  1. My mom was a secretary and she watched Meet the Millers and wrote down many of the recipes which I still use from time to time i.e. pumpkin pie. It was a show from North Tonawanda Buffalo and I must of been little but watched it with my mom some times. Mrs Miller had long hair in a braid that wound many times around her head. My dauaghter just made the pumpkin pie recipe for her new sweetie and I made it for our Thanksgiving feast. I used to pretend that I was Mrs Miller and talked out loud as I was making my peanut butter and jam sandwiches and imagined that I was "cooking" for the t.v. cameras!

  5. My mother's light fruitcake was from a Meet the Millers recipe - she watched their show as a new wife and then young mother. She lost the recipe some time in the 90s and we haven't had good fruitcake since! Did your magic recipe box include that recipe?

  6. Would you be willing to share all of those recipes? My mom watched Meet the Millers religiously, and I remember watching those shows with her, once in a while, too. Iroquois Gas Company does not have an archived set of the recipes, and we would love to have more of them!
